Getting More from Apple iPads

This course covers both Apple iPads and iPhones.

This course gives a detailed outline of the Apple iPad's capabilities and functions. It is for people who already feel confident using the Internet, but are new to the Apple iPad, or want to 'get more' from it: ideal as a refresher course.   

Course Objectives

To give a comprehensive summary of the Apple iPad's features and how to get the best out of it.

A workbook is provided containing exercises to give hands-on experience and general information. This is yours to keep.

Course Structure

Five weeks x2 hours

The topics below are flexible and will be adapted to best suit students' needs.  Topics covered will include:

Week 1

• Hardware & software controls
• Navigation
• Icons and folders
• The onscreen keyboard
• Text editing
• Voice recognition (Siri)

Week 2

• Getting online / Apple ID
• The App Store: downloading, installing, updating & deleting apps
• Closing and switching apps
• Some app recommendations
• Security

Week 3

• Safari - browsing the Web
• Gestures
• Contacts (address book)
• Mail (email)
• Printing

Week 4

• Calendar
• Cameras / photos
• Video calling
• Messages
• Music, books, maps
• News

Week 5

• Settings: configuration and customisation
• Notification Centre, Widgets, Search
• iCloud
• Backup - using iCloud or via iTunes on a PC
• Revision / practice
• Topics suggested by students

 Prerequisites

No prior experience of the Apple iPad is expected, but it will be assumed you are already familiar in general terms with the Internet and email.  

For those new to the Internet & email, we also offer the Starting off with Apple iPads course with the emphasis on these topics.

Please bring along your own Apple iPad or iPhone.
