There are many excellent genealogy software packages and what you ultimately use is largely a matter of taste, but to start off you might like to try one of the following: they are also available on the USB memory stick that we offer you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal P-6\"><strong><a class=\"C-9\" href=\"https:\/\/legacyfamilytree.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Legacy 9<\/a><\/strong><span class=\"C-6\">: The award-<wbr \/>winning Legacy Family Tree comes in two editions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"Normal P-7\"><span class=\"C-6\"><a href=\"https:\/\/legacyfamilytree.com\/DownloadLegacy.asp#Download\"><strong>Standard Edition (free)<\/strong><\/a> &#8211;<wbr \/> Click here to download<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"Normal P-8\"><span class=\"C-6\">Deluxe Edition with many extra advanced features<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Normal P-5\"><span class=\"C-6\">On our hands-<wbr \/>on course you will be searching for information to go into your family tree: you will want to take that information away with you, so you have the choice of the following packages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal P-9\"><span class=\"C-8\"><strong>RootsMagic 8<\/strong>:<span class=\"C-6\"> This is the main program used on this course. \u00a0The free <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/rootsmagic.co.uk\/try-rootsmagic-essentials\/\"><strong>RootsMagic 8 Essentials<\/strong><\/a><span class=\"C-6\"> does not run on a memory stick, <\/span><span class=\"C-6\">however the paid version of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rootsmagic.co.uk\/\">RootsMagic 8<\/a><\/strong> will run directly from a flash drive on both Windows and Mac, which enables you to carry your research in your pocket on a USB memory stick.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal P-9\"><span class=\"C-8\"><strong>ScionPC<\/strong><span class=\"C-6\">: This is a free and portable genealogy app with a modern, easy-<wbr \/>to-<wbr \/>use interface, ideal for both the novice and the experienced genealogist. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"C-6\">Click here to download <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorgeeks.com\/mg\/getmirror\/scionpc,1.html\">ScionPC.zip<\/a><\/strong> file, unzip the package. Run Scion by clicking on <span class=\"C-10\">Run ScionPC.lnk<\/span> or <span class=\"C-10\">ScionPC.exe<\/span> from within the Scion files folder.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal P-10\"><span class=\"C-8\"><strong>Gramps 5.1.5<\/strong>:<span class=\"C-6\"> This is a more advanced package which will run on a PC, or Mac: click on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gramps-project.org\/wiki\/index.php?title=Download\">Download<\/a> and scroll down the page for PC (32 or 64 bit) or Apple macOS\/Mac OS X versions.\u00a0 It is also available in a version that will run on <\/span><strong><a class=\"C-7\" href=\"https:\/\/portableapps.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PortableApps<\/a><\/strong><span class=\"C-6\">, a suit of programs that will run from a memory stick plugged into a PC. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"C-6\">By running Gramps from PortableApps on a USB memory stick you can enter data during the course and then take the memory stick from the computer and run it on a Windows computer at home, or anywhere else.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"OBJ-20\"><span class=\"C-1\">Genealogy Apps<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"OBJ-20\"><span class=\"C-6\">The use of a portable device such as an iPhone\/ iPad or Android Tablet\/Smart Phone can greatly enhance your family history research, as you can use them to directly record information, pictures and stories from relatives, and also record that information directly into your family tree. \u00a0You can make an instant record of information you find at a record office or National Archive. \u00a0There are now many applications to help you: download <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.computerfriendlystalbans.org.uk\/computer-friendly\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Genealogy-Apps.pdf\">Genealogy Apps<\/a><\/strong> to read a brief review of them, most of which
